Botox® for Cosmetic and Therapeutic Treatment Offered at Wilder Dentistry

When you think of Botox® –You usually think of Cosmetic Botox®.  Did you know that Botox® can be therapeutic as well? Cosmetic Botox® is used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, specifically between the eyebrows, across the forehead and crow’s feet. Therapeutic Botox® can be used to treat gummy smile and TMJ/TMD pain.  At Wilder Dentistry, Dr. Speer has had specialized training in both Cosmetic and Therapeutic applications.

What is Botox®?

If you’re not sure what Botox® even is, it’s a protein that temporarily paralyzes muscles to decrease the activity of those muscles. It’s not a permanent procedure though, and lasts about 3-4 months. You’ll need regular Botox® treatments in order to preserve and maintain the benefits of Botox® treatments.

How can it be used for your smile?

Some people are insecure about their smiles and Botox® can help. For instance, if your smile shows a lot of your gums, you can use Botox® to adjust the height of your lip line so that less of your gums show when you smile.

It’s not just about appearances though. For patients with various types of Temporal Mandibular Joint Disorder, Botox® can be helpful in easing that discomfort.

Botox® can be used to help stop you from grinding your teeth by being injected into the muscles that cause grinding.
